Birdfeeder Kits for Personal and Classroom Use to Assemble and Decorate Your Own Feeder(S)
1 - Wooden Bird Feeder Kits
There are numerous wooden bird feeder kits on the market (check out Amazon.com and Temu.com) to choose from which are fun and easy to put together.
They normally come with their own paint supply, paintbrushes and instructions and are designed to be hung up. Most measure between 5” and up to 8” square or rectangular.
2 - Soda– Soda Bottle Birdfeeders
What do these five bottles have in common? They all have the same size twist-off cap, measuring one inch across, and subsequently hang together to make an attractive bird feeder station.
These are easy to decorate with stickers and make them ‘your own’
Peel off any undesirable labels and replace them with regular stickers or with glittery crystal stickers for a pleasing touch.
This kit includes the hanger part on the outside, and the bird seed tray on the inside. You break off the hanger part, punch holes at the bottom of the soda bottle and insert this. Then fill up the bottle with small bird seed using the included funnel, such as Nyjer seed or Parakeet seed, and it’s ready to hang up. You can purchase the hanger-birdseed tray on the internet (ie., Amazon) by searching for Bottle Birdfeeder Kits.
3 - Ground Platform Open Boxes
These three Open half boxes measure 8” square for the largest one, 5” x 6”, and 4.5” square and can be put directly on the ground. We recommend that you decorate the sides facing out with water-based paint and/or stickers. Some native birds, such as Mourning Doves, prefer ground platform feeders, as they are too largeto sit on hanging feeders high above. Look for these on the internet through Amazon, Temu, etc., (wooden platform birdfeeders).
Nyjer or Thistle Seeds for Local Goldfinches
If you're interested in adding another feeder, try purchasing a feeder specifically designed for Nyjer Seeds, a tiny black seed (also known as Thistle Seed) which will attract the American or Lesser Goldfinches, small bright yellow and black birds who are highly attracted to this seed. You can purchase this seed in large bags or in a 'sock' already filled with this seed. The BEST DEAL for this kind of seed is at Amazon, where you can purchase a 20-pound bag for $33. It's a huge heavy bag that will last you about a month, if these adorable bright yellow birds start visiting your feeder. You can also buy a thistle sock and just hang it up, as shown below.

Birdfeeder Kits for Personal and Classroom Use
Encourage hands-on learning and backyard birdwatching with bird feeder kits that you can assemble, decorate, and fill with your favorite bird seeds. Perfect for personal use or school classrooms, these kits allow children and adults to create a fun feeding station while supporting local birds.
To add your bird feeder to your backyard, add a garden J-shaped rod from a garden store such as Lowes. Push deeply into a soil-filled container or open spot in your garden. You can connect several together with plastic zip ties or Velcro or twisters. We recommend the plastic zip ties. Be sure to add an umbrella by the same method to protect your feeders from inclement weather.
